Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If your Rotobrush system’s coil is clogged or failing, we stock compatible coil cleaning parts and complete the swap in one visit. Most Los Angeles Rotobrush coil cleaning jobs run between $165 and $320 installed, depending on your model and how much buildup has accumulated inside the housing. You’ll usually know something’s off when suction drops noticeably mid-job, the machine runs hot, or you hear a whine that wasn’t there two weeks ago. The coil is the part of your Rotobrush that cools the motor as it runs, and in our experience, it’s the component that takes the hardest hit from the fine dust and lint that Los Angeles homes throw at these machines. When it fails, the motor follows shortly after if you keep running the unit.
Dale Whitmore, our owner, has been servicing Rotobrush systems across Los Angeles since the early 2000s, and he’s seen coils fail in every condition from pristine to packed solid with kitchen grease and drywall dust. We’re an independent Rotobrush service provider, not a factory outlet. That means we tell you plainly whether the coil can be cleaned or needs replacing, and you get one flat price before we touch anything.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush puts coil assemblies into most of their portable duct cleaning systems, and the compatibility story changes by generation. The older Rotobrush aiR+ series and the Rotobrush 2500 line use a different coil housing than the current Rotobrush eB and Rotobrush BRx models. The easiest way to identify yours is to pull the side access panel and look for the silver or black finned coil block; there should be an embossed part number on the frame edge, usually starting with “RB-C” followed by four digits.
One compatibility gotcha we see often in Los Angeles: the 2500 and aiR+ coils look nearly identical from the outside and are both roughly 6 inches by 8 inches, but the mounting tabs are offset by 3/8 of an inch and they will not swap without modifying the bracket, which we don’t recommend. If the embossed number is worn off, measure the distance between the two mounting screws and call us with that number; we’ll identify the part from that measurement. As for OEM versus aftermarket, we lean OEM for the coil itself. Rotobrush coils are wound to a specific spec, and cheaper aftermarket replacements run hotter under sustained load, which shortens motor life. The exception is the foam gasket and mesh pre-filter, where an aftermarket replacement is perfectly fine and saves you $20 to $30.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- Suction drops off after 10 or 15 minutes of run time. The coil is caked with fine dust, the motor is overheating, and the thermal limiter is throttling performance automatically. You’ll notice it most when cleaning the long main trunk lines.
- The exhaust air coming from the unit feels noticeably hotter than normal. A clean coil pulls heat away from the motor efficiently. A blocked one doesn’t. If the air feels like a hair dryer, the coil needs attention before the motor windings cook.
- You can hear a high-pitched whine that changes pitch as the motor speed shifts. This is often the coil fan bearing starting to fail, usually because dust has gotten into the bearing seal and dried out the grease.
- The outside of the machine is hot to the touch near the rear grille. The coil isn’t dissipating heat, so it’s bleeding back into the housing. On a Los Angeles summer day with no air conditioning in the attic, this gets dangerous for the motor fast.
- You see visible white or gray crust built up on the coil fins when you open the access panel. That’s mineralized dust, often from homes near the coast where salt air carries in and mixes with typical duct debris. It doesn’t brush off with a rag; it needs a proper solvent cleaning or coil replacement with a remanufactured part.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we charge in the Los Angeles metro area for Rotobrush coil work, with the price set in writing before any work begins:
- Coil cleaning in place (we remove the coil, degrease and flush the fins, replace the mesh pre-filter, reinstall): $165 – $225 depending on how badly the fins are impacted.
- Replacement with remanufactured OEM coil for aiR+ or 2500 series: $240 – $285 parts and labor included.
- Replacement coil for current eB or BRx models: $260 – $320 parts and labor included.
- Coil plus replacement fan and bearing assembly: $310 – $360 when the bearing has already started to go.
The price range reflects mainly how long the disassembly takes; some older 2500 units have rust-stuck screws that add 20 minutes. Every coil job includes a free inspection of the full airflow path, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies in writing. If the coil fails within that window, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it’s on every invoice we hand out in Los Angeles.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely check the coil yourself and even do a light cleaning if you’re comfortable removing the access panel. Unplug the unit first, always. A soft brush and a can of compressed air will knock off loose surface dust. But here’s where we see Los Angeles owners get into trouble: the coil uses a chemical-safe aluminum fin design, and spraying it with whatever degreaser is under the kitchen sink will eat pin holes in the fins over time. We’ve also seen people bend the fins flat with a pressure washer, which makes the coil useless for heat transfer. If the buildup is crusted on, or the bearing is whining, that’s the point to call us. The diagnostic is free over the phone at (213) 733-0665, and Dale will tell you straight whether it’s a clean, a rebuild, or a replacement. Tell me what you’re seeing in the house, and I’ll tell you honestly whether we can fix it and what it’ll cost.
FAQs
In Los Angeles, where we run these machines in hot attics and dusty older homes, most coils last 4 to 7 years before they need a full replacement. Coastal areas with salt air often knock that down to 3 to 4 years. The pre-filter is the difference maker; replacing it every 20 to 30 jobs extends coil life significantly. If your Rotobrush is older than 6 years and has never had the coil touched, plan on cleaning it and possibly replacing it. Call (213) 733-0665 and we’ll give you an honest assessment over the phone.
Coils can almost always be cleaned, but once the fins are crushed, the bearing is dry, or the aluminum has corrosion holes, repair isn’t worth it. A remanufactured replacement is the better call and often costs less than a technician’s hourly rate to chase a dying part. We’ll show you the condition and let you decide before any work is done.
Most Rotobrush coil replacements run 60 to 90 minutes in our shop or at your location. Cleaning the coil in place takes about 45 minutes. We don’t take your machine away for days; we fix it on site in Los Angeles, and the written quote covers the full job including the drive over.
We keep coils for the aiR+ and 2500 series on the truck at all times, along with replacement gaskets and pre-filters. Coils for the newest eB and BRx models are stocked at our Los Angeles shop and can be pulled for a same-week appointment. We also keep compatible parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier system accessories, though our focus is Rotobrush service.
If your Rotobrush is running hot, wheezing, or losing suction, give us a call at (213) 733-0665. We’ll walk through what you’re seeing, give you a straight answer, and if you need a replacement coil, you’ll know the price before we ever step foot on the job.
